LAHORE: A hearing has been scheduled by the Lahore High Court (LHC) on the plea filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to host a demonstration in Lahore. Judge Farooq Haider will oversee the case and consider the arguments made by Sheikh Imtiaz Mahmood and Aliya Hamza, the leaders of the PTI.
The Punjab government and numerous other parties are included as respondents in the PTI’s petition. According to the petition, the PTI, which is the main opposition party, has asked permission to organise rallies in Lahore on several occasions, but these requests have always been turned down for political reasons.
The paper focuses on a particular application that was made on September 21 to the Deputy Commissioner of Lahore in order to obtain permission for a gathering at the famous Minar-e-Pakistan. PTI claims that the Deputy Commissioner has not given this authority, making it more difficult for them to rally supporters.
The petition highlights the importance of political expression in a free society by emphasising that every political party’s ability to assemble and hold rallies is a fundamental constitutional right. The PTI is pleading with the court to give the appropriate authorities the go-ahead for their scheduled demonstration at Minar-e-Pakistan.
The result of the hearing could have a big influence on PTI’s capacity to interact with its followers and establish its political authority in the province as the hearing draws near.
