The district police in Jamshoro have taken action against a guy who they say was bothering polio workers at an RBB Colony government health dispensary. The arrest happened after ASI Nawaz Rahujo made a First Information Report (FIR). He did this on behalf of the state because the health workers were afraid to report the incident themselves.
The event happened when Abdul Baqi Pathan took his kids to the dispensary for a regular checkup. During this visit, the polio workers tried to give his children polio drops, which is a normal practice in public health campaigns. But Pathan is said to have responded violently. He talked badly and threateningly to the workers, which made the place tense and unfriendly.
At first, the polio workers, who are very important to the country’s health efforts, didn’t want to make a complaint. Because they were hesitant, ASI Nawaz Rahujo stepped in and officially filed the FIR to make sure the problem was dealt with properly and to protect the workers’ health.
The arrest shows how important it is to protect healthcare workers, who are often the first people to help with public health efforts. To get rid of polio, the community needs to work together and treat people with respect. Harassment hurts these important health programs.
