Pakistan Increases Permit Fees for Climbing K2

GILGIT: The second-highest mountain in the world, K2, has a permission charge that has increased significantly, according to a recent announcement from the Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) administration. The new policy is expected to affect mountaineers in the country as well as abroad.

The G-B Tourism, Sports, Culture, Archaeology & Museum Department has announced updates to the pricing structure for individual international climbers. The notification can be seen here.

  • Summer Season (April to September): $5,000
  • Autumn Season (October-November): $2,500
  • Winter Season (December to March): $1,500

The cost of a K2 expedition is $12,000 for foreign climbers in parties. Furthermore, the $100 per group trekking fee for foreign mountaineers has been changed. Climbers on their own will be charged the following fees:

  • Summer Season: $300
  • Autumn Season: $200
  • Winter Season: $100

Fees for Pakistani Climbers

The cost of permits will also alter for climbers from Pakistan:

  • Summer Season: Rs100,000
  • Autumn Season: Rs50,000
  • Winter Season: Rs30,000

The price for Pakistani groups has been set at Rs 30,000.

The government’s attempts to control the growing number of climbers and guarantee the preservation of K2’s ecosystem are reflected in these modifications. Mountaineers should be aware of these updated fees before organizing their expeditions and make appropriate plans.
