With the change in weather expected in October, the Punjab government is planning to change the times that schools are open all over the state. Every year, the government implements this change to accommodate weather variations and enhance the comfort of students and workers in the buildings.
Last year, the local government did something similar when they pushed the start time of school to 8:30 a.m. in October 2023. This is likely to happen again.
Punjab’s current school hours
At the moment, schools that work on a single shift plan begin at 8 a.m. and end at 1:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. On Friday, classes end earlier at 12:00 p.m.
There are two shifts for schools: one in the morning from 8 am to 12 pm, and another in the afternoon from 1 pm to 5:30 pm. The afternoon shift on Fridays starts at 2:00 pm and ends at 5:30 pm.
When schools are likely to open in October 2024
The Punjab government hasn’t made an official release yet, but the new school hours will likely be similar to the ones that were made last year. Based on what happened last year, the following changes are expected to happen in October 2024:
For boys’ schools: classes should begin at 8:30 am and end at 2:30 pm
For girls’ schools: classes are set to start at 8:15 am and end at 2:15 pm
Friday (Boys): School for boys will begin at 8:30 am and end at 12:15 pm
Friday(Girls): School for girls will start at 8:15 am and end at 12:00 pm
For schools with two shifts:
The morning shift is set to run from 7:45 am to 12:15 pm.
The afternoon shift will likely start at 12:30 pm and end at 5:00 pm. On Friday, lessons will begin at 1:30 pm after the Jumma break.
Once the provincial government makes a public announcement, the new times will be set in stone. We’ll let you know about any new information as soon as the new plan comes out.
